Morning Pages Journaling Made Easy – Guest Blog Post by Mari McCarthy
In the unlikely case that you are not already familiar with Morning Pages, it is a habit of writing three full pages in longhand stream of consciousness every morning very soon after rising. The formula is simple and explicit, and designed to let mind and spirit cleanse and relax before beginning your day. By divesting yourself of whatever fills your brain upon rising, you become far more clear-minded and creative in the activities that follow.
But let’s be real. It’s truly hard to start a new daily habit unless you’re getting paid for it. Some people love trying new things, but they are the exception. No matter how rewarding the proposed new discipline may promise to be, most of us are seriously challenged at the beginning. We are very good at procrastinating and tend to put off ‘til manaña any activity that will disrupt our routine.
At CreateWriteNow, like here on the CreativeWellnessWorks site, we work hard every day to raise awareness about the incredible benefits of journal writing. The Morning Pages are a great way to get started.
And in order to make it super-easy for everyone to start a Morning Pages habit, CreateWriteNow has developed 12 Days of Morning Pages. You can get the course via 12 daily emails or you can get the ebook; either way, this set of prompts and exercises will let you enjoy an easy and fun slide into a firmly established daily practice.
The introduction to our new course includes the following:
We are in a continuous struggle against worries, fears, doubts and other distractions that clutter our minds and block our creativity. We obsess over the lukewarm performance review at work. We give into our own negative self-talk. We stress over the messy house and the bills that need to be paid. Morning Pages give us a release for these thoughts – they provide a necessary “brain dump” that allows us to clear out the bad and make room for the good.
The value of your Morning Pages cannot be overstated.
If you already keep Morning Pages, please testify in the comments and share your experience with the practice. Between us, we’ll manage to spread the wonderful Word! Write?
